Anybody who says they don’t like this song is a liar! Who doesn’t love when this song comes on in a bar and EVERYBODY sings along? Read more…

Volunteering in a Red Cross Emergency Shelter

July 9, 2010

Red Cross

If you have any time at all, I really urge you to get involved with the Red Cross.

I’m a Red Cross reserve volunteer. As a reserve I only get called when full time and part time volunteer personnel are all tapped. This is my first deployment. I’ve taken classes, I’ve participated in a full-scale shelter exercise, and for 11 September 2009 I was at ground zero providing basic support for victims’ families. But today my help is needed in an emergency role. There was a five alarm fire in Queens a couple nights ago that destroyed an apartment building – displacing about 100 people. Adventures with Claire 2: Tanks, Guns, and Kitchy Fun.

But I do hope that I’ll have advanced somewhat so that it’s a LITTLE less challenging to reach the goals I’m passionate about. Read more…

The Last Time I Thanked Someone

July 4, 2010

I work in customer service, so I thank people a lot. However, what does the obligatory “Thank you” really amount to? I’m never really GRATEFUL that somebody has asked me to make them a cappuccino or scoop them some popcorn. Read more…

Adventures with Claire 1: Treetops Tarzan-Style

July 1, 2010

What the frick is this “Adventures with Claire” jump-off you ask?

So, in an effort to combat my early-life crisis, I’m attempting to have pseudo-adventures about every few weeks. I’m not exactly of the class that has the means to go to exotic places, or even take off from work. I’ve decided that I won’t let an empty wallet or a busy schedule stand in my way. Life’s too short to save up for plane tickets. Read more…
